On Success: My Journey from There to Here
Looking back on my life so far, I never could have imagined where certain decisions would take me. In the early days of my company (Yummy Spoonfuls Organic Baby Food), the hardships sometimes made me wonder about the path I’d chosen.
There were times, after a full day of taking care of my husband and kids, when I would be pulling an all-nighter to fulfill a big order for Dean & Deluca or Whole Foods Market; and the sheer exhaustion would sink in. I would look up and say “God, what have I done? How can I keep this up?”
But, God is good. Yes, there were hard times when I didn’t see how I was going to make it, but God came through again and again, sending help my way, just in time.
To be sure, no path is always smooth. The twists and turns and the rugged parts – that is what makes us strong. Those rough patches test our passion and commitment, but all of it is a blessing. Life would be pretty dull without any challenges!
Yummy Spoonfuls Organic Baby Food is all grown up now, but there are still challenges to be met, and new paths to travel.
People sometimes ask me to talk about success, and what it feels like to come this far. I always say that success is not a destination.
It is wonderful – and necessary – to stop and enjoy one’s accomplishments from time to time. But the work is never done. There is always more – more bread to be made, more recipes to write, more teaching, more reaching out, more babies born who need good food.
So, to me, success means pressing on, every day, meeting the challenges of each new day. Success isn’t a particular place, or a particular achievement — it is a mindset. It’s the attitude that every day is an opportunity – to serve and to lead, and to fulfill the mission that God has for your life. That’s what I believe.
